Florence: Night, no gale.

Posted by ehren

We spent the night in Florence, Oregon, at the northern tip of the Oregon Dunes Recreational Area. We hid the bus behind one of the only warehouse buildings in town, walking distance from the historic, touristy district. Miro purchased and cooked fresh Pacific Salmon (I expect he is better equipped to share the details of this culinary delight...it was very tasty) along with leeks and rice. We tried to catch a 7:30 or 8:30 "Anything" showing at the local Cinemas (not Cinema, surprisingly, but Cinemas), but we were 40 minutes too late for the last showing of "Kingdom of Heaven" so we walked around on the strip for a while longer, I impulse bought 20 golf balls at the St. Vincent de Paul outlet for later use in bustop artillery exercises, should there be such an occasion.

We also stopped to oogle an late 80s Bluebird Wanderlodge. At the insurance agency in Boston last November, this is the vehicle I gave them the questionable impression that I was attempting to insure. It is, far and away, the best motorhome built in that era, with an inconceivable number of features. Two rooftop A/C's, a satellite unit, awnings for every window (no matter how small), external lights simply to illuminate the storage compartments. Anyway, I'm gushing. They also cost 20x our version. It was parked at the Elks lodge, naturally. Texas plates.

Once back at the bus, after working for an hour I went to bed early and woke up at 8 this morning (woo!). At the coffee shop this morning a local woman is selling chicken eggs, but the 3 year old girl in a tutu who told us they were closing yesterday -- "You have to leave or I'll get mad!" -- (an hour and a half early, wolf-cryer) is nowhere to be seen.

Perfect, sunny weather for dune buggies.
