This is a reanimation of the Vicaribus blog as lived by Miro Kazakoff and Ehren Foss in 2004 and 2005.
The photos may be spotty.

I feel so alone. My computer is in the shop, which means it’s in transit from the Portland, Oregon Best Buy to eMachines HQ (now owned by Gateway). If all goes according to plan, it should be shipped back to Portland by May 30 and then sent to the Seattle Best Buy where Ehren and I will pick it up before going to Canada. Even the guy at the best Buy gives this scenario even odds of not working out. Presumably we can have it shipped to which ever Best Buy we are closest to, but since we’ll be in Canada for about a month that means shipping it over the border.
As a result, posts from me are going to be intermittent for the next week; so will email responses. Also, we’re headed to Olympic National Park in Washington State. Internet access will be limited. After that I’m spending Memorial Weekend in Vegas to celebrate the bachelor party of Jim DiLiberto. Vegas, baby, Vegas.
I’m antsy about the health of my baby and currently writing this on a borrowed laptop from Sean McCarthy. He orbited the Fossosphere back in high school and is here visiting with his girlfriend Rana (first “A” long, second “A” short, like Dana) for about a week.
I bought a little cassette recorder while at Best Buy. My hope it to keep a bit of an audio diary and assemble it into a radio piece or two though the trip. Of course, I can’t edit anything until I get my computer back. Ehren’s intermittently had himself recorded for the last two days, often without his knowledge. I was hearted to find out that conversation comes through even over the noise of our engine. I constantly find myself wishing I had the recorder on at moments where I don’t. The lesson, of course, is record constantly and accept that you’ll throw away most of what you capture.
Sean’s an avid outdoorsman. He an Foss led us on a truly righteous hike through Mt St. Helens yesterday. I love volcanoes, and Mt St. Helens is a uniquely awesome experience. I’m sure Ehren will cover more of the scenery, but I just wanted to put in a quick thanks to my parents who bought me the high-class pair of hiking boots that kept my feet warm, dry and blister free through rocks, mud, volcanic ash, rain and a two inch snowfall that hit us at the top of the peak we were climbing.
